What makes that popping sound when you “crack” the back?

When a chiropractor ADJUSTS (not crack) your spine, the joint between the two bones being treated is opened. This causes gases from the surrounding tissues to be pulled into the opened space.  This would be similar to the sound when a cork is pulled from a wine bottle. It’s not bones hitting together, but rather being gently moved apart.

Why does my neck or back make popping and or  grinding noises when I move it around?

This may be a indicator that there is degeneration within the joints. It may also indicate that there are some segments within your neck or back that are out of position and/or fixated (not moving). Subsequently the segments above or below this area must move too much, causing the popping sounds.  Your chiropractor can easily check this and make the proper recommendations.

What is subluxation?

A subluxation is a joint that  is misaligned and/or not able to move properly. This can cause problems not only to the joint but to the local muscles, ligaments and nerves. Subluxations can also cause injuries to the discs as well as degeneration to the joint. It is a chiropractors primary job to correct these subluxations and thus restoring health to the areas involved.
